My VW History

IMPORTANT MILE STONES:

Year 1987 - My first Cool VW sighting Tan Squareback w/ Scallops full length rag slammed on blue 8 spokes. I remember thinking to myself, what a cool surf wagon. Living in Vegas you grow up a wannabe surfer.

Year 1988 - I was at a used car lot with a friend and saw a squareback (late model) in the back. It didn't run ( I understood nothing about engines) that didn't stop me from putting a down payment of $20.00 on it. They were asking $100.00 I wasnt working at the time, so a month later I went back to ask for my deposit back. Still no VW for me.

Fall '88 - Got my first VW. Bought it from my friend Joey Wescott. 1962 primered bug. Slammed on blue painted stock wheels. No interior. No door glass. Front seats only (keepin' it street). This one had 1 suicide door & 1 stock 1965 door on the passanger side.Learned how to work on VW's form this one. Got to experience all of the typical breakdowns. Traded for wrecked 1986 Nissan 720. Bad move.

1989 - Bought 1964 bug from my brother George's friend Rick I want to say $800. Slammed & primered with white insert on side. Chromies and front seats only. Trying to make it look "my own" I primered it black & kept the white insert.

1991 - 1964 bug totaled. Hit and Run by drunk driver that blew a stop sign at Vegas Dr & Tenaya. Dont drink & drive!

1992 - Found 1963 Ragtop bug at larrys auto wrecking. Purchased for $400.00 Got it on the road quick by swapping all the parts off of my 64. Thanks to my Brother George, Mark D & my friend Rich Peitre. It was painted Red & White with Red 5 spokes. Started a club called Vegas Volks met a few people. Tari Motsik From Nebraska, same night I met Noah Caccum and this dude I called Curbie cause he had parking blocks under his Super beetle hood to lower it. That year I went to the VW jamboree in Coasta Mesa Ca. There I meet Scott Moses, Derek Cambell & his crew. (Precious Metals)

Summer 1992 Started hanging out with Scott Moses & his bug " the Red potato" . Met Mike Kennedy he had a yellow ghia at the time. I also meet Dino Bakalas that year. He helped me with building my first big motor. It was a 1904cc. That thing was quick (at least I thought it was). Put that engine in a 67 KG I had and it was stolen out of my car while it was in a shop to get painted.

1993 Started haning out at DRP with Jim & Carrie Barbeau. Jim was really cool. That year it became the local hang out. I painted my bug Silver Took the body off the pan. Finally thought I had it finished 4 wheel disc brakes, 2276cc, 48ida's, close ratio trans. It lasted about 2 weeks then I blew the engine racing Jim in front of his shop. I got pretty bummed about the whole scene. Sold my bug to some one for $3500 less motor.

1994- 1998 took a brake from VW's till I bought My Bus (Click here to read that story)

Since getting back in to the scene in 1998 I hve purchased over 20 VW's & helped many friends get back in to the scene.
